bioMerieux VITEK 60

The VITEK is a completely automated instrument that offers rapid results (with an average of 2-6 hour same-day turnaround), random or batch processing and a quality control module. It is used for bacterial and yeast identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing and urine screening and has a complete Data Management System. The VITEK Microbiological Identification and Suceptablility System is a CSA/UL registered system that automatically identifies infectious species and provides rapid, accurate, antibiotic susceptibility results (including MIC) with improved standardization in less time than routine manual techniques. VITEK uses standard bacterial identification and susceptibilty methods. The automated procedure results in fewer steps and less waste. From an isolated colony suspension, the VITEK System inoculates a patient test card containing wither differential media or an antibiotic array. Total incubation time ranges from two to eighteen hours.
